Colin in a Nutshell
Colin Jackson CBE is undoubtedly one of the greatest athletes ever in the history of British and Welsh athletics - and we’re not just saying that because he’s Welsh & we’re proud of him - he really is very, very good at it...! Honest to goodness! He must be, because he was the holder of the world record for the 110 meter hurdles for 13 years and still holds the world record for the indoor 60m hurdles.
Colin now has a high profile career as a motivational speaker, sports commentator & television presenter - and he’s very good at all that too!
So good in fact, that he’s already the holder of the MBE that he received in 1990 for his services to athletics and Colin was also appointed CBE in 1992. Very posh...
Since ending his sporting career , Colin has been a coach in athletics and other areas. Since late 2006, he has coached two of Great Britain's top Olympic prospects, 400m runner Tim Benjamin and 400m hurdler Rhys Williams. He was also one of the members of the successful London 2012 Olympic bid team. He’s a very busy man!
Colin has also appeared as one of the celebrity contestants on the BBC TV series Strictly Come Dancing, where he reached second place [not a position he’s accustomed to...] after a neck-and-neck race in the final. He did, however, win the reunion Christmas special in 2006 in which contestants from various series appeared. More recently he has explored his family history in the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?
Colin is most definitely a champion of healthy, honest to goodness living and is delighted to bring you his new range of healthy, nutritious snacks in association with Sunscoop.
In a word...nuts.
So, let Colin talk to you about nuts for a moment...
Nuts are little bundles of energy that have been around since....well, since air, really.
We see them hanging innocently in packets behind pub bars, having been roasted, covered in salt and sometimes even drenched in honey. They occasionally nestle discreetly in the pre-packed salads we buy for lunch, or turn up unexpectedly in our oriental take-away’s. They play a part in some people’s Christmas celebrations with a much anticipated annual outing and from time to time they can be found congregating in jars, having been crushed & buttered for our toast-spreading pleasure.
They’re always there, just out of sight, in our peripheral vision, on the very edge of our consciousness, so much so, that we completely take them for granted.
But the mighty little nut should never be underestimated...! Did you know, for instance, that way back in 1920, John Harvey Kellogg, founder of the Kellogg’s Corporation, wrote an article entitled “Nuts may save the Human Race”...?
Were you aware that nuts contain none of the bacteria that makes food spoil easily and therefore have an incredibly long “shelf-life”...? Can you believe that each and every species of nut bears its own distinctive flavour, as well as a unique history that often dates back to biblical times and beyond...?
No...?
Hardly surprising. Like I said, we really do take the humble nut for granted. But they truly deserve some closer attention.
So get cracking and find out more...
